Top » Education: Reference & LearningON THIS DAYSite: http://www.nytimes.com/learning/general/onthisdayEach day's New York Times online has a link to On This Day, part of the Times Learning Network. The target audience is school children, but don't be tempted to forego this consistently fascinating feature. Along with a time line of key events and birthdays for the date in question, the Times highlights the anniversary of a major event as reported on its front page. The front page itself is reproduced, along with the full text of the featured article and summaries of other headline stories. There is also a link to the obituary of a historical figure born on that date. For example, as I write this, on May 15, the main headline is the Supreme Court's 1911 ruling ordering the breakup of Standard Oil Company. The obituary is that of Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago (1920-1976). And the featured "birthday girl" is Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. This site is fun and informative for people of all ages. Check out your own birthday and you'll see what I mean. Mon, 15 May 2000 05:28:04 -0700 Submitted by: Lois Ambash
