Michael Quinion is a polymath--and the self-proclaimed "only lexicographic programming interpreter in captivity"--whose quirky sense of humor, graceful writing style, and abiding passion for the English language are everywhere in evidence on his website. World Wide Words proclaims a "British viewpoint" on the tongue. But I can't imagine a language buff in the English-speaking world who could resist Quinion's growing repository of notes and essays on etymology, usage, trendy coinages, punctuation, dictionaries, and any other language-related topic that may strike his fancy. World Wide Words features an idiosyncratic selection of links to other language sites, a Q&A section wherein Quinion responds to visitors' queries, and a free weekly e-mail update highlighting new content. Cyberlinguaphiles (a term I would be delighted to offer Quinion for his Weird Words column) should make a beeline for this site.
