Hello Larry

A decade ago, the Atlanta Braves were the laughing stock of the National League with consistently woeful play on the baseball field. As hard as it may seem, they drew even bigger laughs off the field one day in June when they selected a high school kid named Larry Wayne Jones with the first pick in the 1990 draft. Who's laughing now? Jones, aka Chipper, won the NL MVP award last season. With the first draft of the new century rapidly approaching (June 5th), writer Bill Ballew looks back on that fateful draft when the Braves skipped over baseball darling Todd Van Poppel and opted for diamond in the rough Chipper Jones.
