GAY COUNTRY MUSIC

According to Billboard Magazine, gays and lesbians have always been loyal fans of country music. Promoting an awareness of this and highlighting the large numbers of queer country music fans and queer performers is a goal of the Lesbian and Gay Country Music Association (LGCMA). Founded in 1998, member singers, dancers, bands, instrumentalists, clubs, and organizations work with pride festivals, fundraising organizations, the gay rodeo circuit, and lesbian and gay clubs to showcase and promote their music. Their site offers biographies of gay and lesbian country singers, information about memberships in LGCMA, links to related sites, and press reviews. As HERO magazine said in February, "The gay country scene is booming! If things continue this way, country music bars could potentially replace discos."
