Top » PhotographyA HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHYSite: http://www.kbnet.co.uk/rleggat/photoDr. Robert Leggat provides an extensive and well-organized interactive history of photography, from its origins through the 1920s. In "Beginnings of Photography," the author describes in detail photography's development, covering its evolution with Louis Daguerre and the Daguerrotype, Fox Talbot and the Calotype, Frederick Scott Archer and the Collodion, and Dr. Richard Maddox and the dry plate. This site also contains a short information page for each of more than 50 significant processes, styles and movements in photography. Even more impressive is the list of more than 120 brief biographies of the important people in the early history of photography. Unfortunately, the site includes very few photos due to copyright restrictions, but there is a list of British museums where you can go and see the historical equipment and images. And for those who would like to study the history of photography further, Dr. Leggat provides a bibliography suggesting the best books for beginners as well as those for more advanced study.
