Small Country Syndrome

FOREIGN POLICY Magazine has an interesting article that highlights the rapid splintering of certain portions of the world into smaller and smaller countries, as groups with existing countries decide secession is in their best interest. I find the following quote particularly telling: "Three quarters of the flags saluted around the world today did not exist 50 years ago."
