TAP INTO THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS

Site: http://www.loc.gov

Sometimes the most obvious sources of information can be overlooked. Paid for with American tax dollars, the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., the largest library in the world, hosts a website that is rich in reference, history, and exhibitions. A new section, America's Story, is geared toward young people, but it's interesting for folks of all ages, with sections devoted to meeting amazing Americans; jumping back in time; exploring the states; joining America at play; and seeing, hearing, and singing. Find out what Abraham Lincoln had in his pockets the night he was assassinated, watch a film of an early break-dancer of 1898, and send a postcard from our capital. But most importantly of all, check out the Library's amazing database of resources, with about 12 million records of books, serials, manuscripts, cartographic materials, computer files, music, sound recordings, and visual materials. When I lived in Washington, D.C., I trudged back and forth to the Library's Main Reading Room to conduct research. Today, I could save a bundle on bus fare by using this website instead.
