GETTING SCREWED IN NAPA

Let's play word association: say the first thing that comes into mind when you read the phrase "wine in screw-capped bottles." It's understandable if you said "cheap" or a similar word. But more and more winemakers are despairing that their superb wine is spoiled by faulty corks. Now a winery in Napa Valley is putting one of their premium wines in a screw-cap closed bottle. PlumJack Winery is releasing half its production of Cabernet Sauvignon 1997 Reserve in this way--and they are charging a $10 premium to cover the cost of the specially designed bottles. If you decide to spend $135 on one of these bottles it might be wise to keep it safe--don't risk your partner thinking its a cheapo and using it for sangria. This page has the full story.
