I don't agree with everything here (I happen to believe that a piece of writing deserves its share of rejections and rewrites before you shelve it), but you'll find a surprising amount of wisdom here. Michael Johnson discusses how to avoid confusing different drafts of a piece of writing. He identifies your most valuable research tool. He discusses why you should join a professional writers' association, and recommends something we all should have but so few bother with: a backup. Some of his advice on marketing and administration made me say, "why on earth didn't I think of that?"
