AUTHOR! AUTHOR!

Site: http://www.janbrett.com

For many years, I have shared the stories and illustrations of Jan Brett with my classes and they love her marvelously intricate depictions brimming with details. Recently, I discovered the Jan Brett website. What a find! In her typically generous manner, Brett shares projects, ranging from needlework to numbers to recipes. All are created in her charming style and connected with her tales, making them ideal literature extensions for children. From masks to calendars to puppets, there is a project to engage and enrich every child. In a section I particularly like, she describes in her notes how a story is developed, and in another area she demonstrates how to draw some of her creatures, thereby encouraging both the artist/writer in a child (or parent for that matter). This site is a sure way to speed the summer along and respond to the familiar complaint that "There's nothing to do!" A project a day keeps boredom at bay!
