TURN ME ON--HOW TO FIX THE LIGHT SWITCH

Inevitably, one or more of the switches in your home--"toggle switches" to an electrician, "the things that turn on the lights" to Aunt Hilda--will break. Removing and reinstalling them correctly is important for both correct operation and safety. This site demonstrates how to wire a single pole and a three-way toggle switch, the two most common switches in houses. The diagrams will help you to understand the instructions that come with most switches. Remember to turn the power off at the main breaker panel and to use a voltage tester on the circuit even after you have turned off the power. You can't be too safe.
