Top » Self-Help & PsychologyThe Shannon-Weaver Model of CommunicationSite: http://www.cultsock.ndirect.co.uk/MUHome/cshtml/introductory/sw.Much of self-development is concerned with communication. There are many models of communication, and this is one that has been used as the basis of many approaches to self-development. The model has a source that sends a message via a channel to a receiver. The receiver decodes this message (using his or her brain), and makes sense of it. The whole process is affected by noise, which is more than sound. It is anything that affects the receiver getting the message. Communication is a very popular subject, but there aren't really any really good theories. Those who have studied many types of self-development will recognize that this model is used extensively. In spite of its shortcomings, it has led to some interesting developments in self-improvement. It is something that is important to know. (The diagrams are pretty too!)
