STICK A CORK IN IT!

Site: http://wineweb.com/w3new24.html

I recently uncorked a bottle of zinfandel and was shocked to pry a light blue "pseudo-cork" out of my wine key. Is this a ploy to keep pieces of cork from floating around in my glass? I found an Internet news article that explains the contamination of wines from moldy corks. The article describes the smell and taste of a "corked" wine (I have never had the misfortune of receiving one), how it becomes contaminated and a few of the ways wineries have been combating the contamination (including the use of synthetic corks). Fascinating!
