HARPER LEE'S ONE BOOK TO FAME

Site: http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Culture/HarperLee/bio.html

"To Kill a Mocking Bird" was an Academy Award winning movie with Gregory Peck. Most recently it was part of a question asked on "Who Wants To Be a Millionare." Well, here is the site to find out biographical material on the life and writings of the reclusive author, Harper Lee, which includes a charming color photo of the author today. She was born on April 28 1926 in Monroeville Alabama. Harper Lee actually wrote her novel of the south in a cold-water New York flat. She submitted to J.B. Lippincott Company in 1957 but was told it was a series of short stories strung together. For the next two and half years, she rewrote her novel. It was published in 1960 and is her only published book. In 1961 the Alabama Legislature voted to congratulate Ms. Lee. In 1966, she was appointed to the National Council of the Arts. She has many essays published in magazines such as Vogue and McCall's. She has four honorary degrees. She is working on her memoirs, and on another book based on a real life story.
