Top » Sports: BaseballST. LOUIS BROWNS LIVE ONSite: http://icdweb.cc.purdue.edu/~winterp/baseball/browns.htmlThere was a time in baseball where a road trip to the west meant traveling to St. Louis. Indeed, the St. Louis Browns are one of baseball's most historic franchises. From 1902-1948, there were only 16 teams in the major leagues and New York, Boston, Philadelphia and St. Louis made up nine of those teams. In 1954, the St. Louis Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Orioles, leaving St. Louis with only the Cardinals. This site gives you access to every player who ever suited up for the often woeful Browns, including legendary one-armed player, Pete Gray. There's also a listing of every Browns player whoever appeared on a baseball card. Extensive coverage of the 1944 "Streetcar" World Series, when the Browns played the Cardinals, is an extremely intriguing section. Also, the site sports terrific photos of players and of fabled Sprotsman's Park to boot. There's even information on the origin and changes involving the Browns' logos. In all, a great trip back in memory lane. Wed, 21 Jun 2000 15:38:44 -0700
