CHIP HOOPER--PHOTOGRAPHER

A West Coast photographer with the technique of Ansel Adams and verve of Brett Weston, Carmel's Chip Hooper splashed onto the fine art photographic scene in the past year almost as big as that seen in his most-often reproduced "Crashing Waves and Splash." Images of California's rugged northern coastline may establish Hooper as one of the best of his generation, but he's not afraid to venture to new frontiers. The gallery highlights a 20-year career of black-and-white photography in three main portfolios (6 images each)--coastal, landscape and desert. The breadth of his work ranges from "3 1/2 Birds On a Rock," to "Sierra Storm, Owens Lake," to "Sandstone Wave." There's also four images of his most recent work, a pin-point of an iceberg from a nine-month exploration with a large-format camera of the salt flats in Utah, Florida coast and Nevada's high desert.
