Top » Sports: BaseballMAKING A CHILD'S GAME FUN AGAIN FOR CHILDRENSite: http://web.philly.com/content/inquirer/2000/07/07/sports/SMIT07.When I was a youngster growing up in Philadelphia, my dream was to become a Major League baseball player. I watched as many games as possible, cheered for my favorite players, but most importantly--I played the game I loved night and day. Sadly, today some people believe that baseball has lost its grip on America as the country's favorite national pastime. They point out that this is particularly true with children in urban areas who are opting to participate in other sports due to a lack of resources to play the game. A program named Reviving Baseball in the Inner City (RBI) is hoping to reverse those trends. Through RBI, organizers are making a child's game fun, interesting and accessible for children. In this article, writer Claire Smith examines the success of the program and explains how it is making baseball popular again with the youth of America.
