The Delta Foundation was established in 1977 to promote mutually beneficial relationships between animals and people. Founder Michael McCulloch, M.D. researched the importance of animals in our everyday lives and scientifically documented how they help people improve their health, independence, and quality of life through animal companionship. People who are ill or disabled can especially benefit from the company of pets. Services such as "therapy" animals and service dogs have their origins with the Delta Foundation. This website talks about the history of the society and offers educational materials to help apply these principles in daily life.
