Kids in Space

I've always loved the art of the old Flash Gordon series and other early sci-fi stories. This great online collection traces the course that pictures of space flight have taken in children's books. Starting with the wild imagination of the late 1800s, the site moves through my favorite pieces from the 1950s, and finally on to the more factual-based illustrations in the 1970s. Great pictures, but also an interesting history trip about how we thought of space flight and how quickly it changed from imagination to reality over time.
