MODERN AMERICAN POETRY: E.E.CUMMINGS

Site: http://www.english.uiuc.edu/maps/poets/a_f/cummings/cummings.htm

E.E. Cummings poetry, infamous for the liberties he took with lower case letters, was often sexy, funny, and filled with the depth of metaphor. This Modern American Poetry site explores his work in depth with illustrations and critiques by the literati. Comments by the author are also included in a link. Cummings lived from 1894 to 1962. He broke onto the poetry scene as an unabashed rebel, albeit talented. The critics praise him. Slater Brown states that Cummings uses words to paint his poems. He revels in the poet's descriptive talents as well as his technique. Edmund Wilson contrasts Cummings with Wallace Stevens. Students and lovers of poetry will find a lot to read at this site, which has numerous internal as well as external links.
