The Dark Side of Zen

Mystical Zen or Dark Zen is the highest, truest form of Zen, achieved through the "Mind's self-awakening." Dark Zen gave birth to conventional Zen, which supposedly is for "beginners" who need a teacher to guide them on a journey towards enlightenment, though not necessarily self-enlightenment. Conventional Zen is designed to inspire students to proceed on their own to becoming one with the true nature of Mind (Buddha). Dark Zen is for the advanced student who no longer needs or has never needed a teacher. This site offers a great deal of information for Zen students at all levels. There is a lengthy Q&A section on Dark Zen teachings and a thorough how-to section on Dark Zen meditation. The articles cover a variety of topics on many aspects of Zen, and the book reviews are informative.
