FLORIDA'S ENDANGERED PANTHER

Panther, cougar, puma, mountain lion. They're different words for the same animal. The Florida panther differs from the typical American cougar in only slight ways. However, like many wild cats around the world, it's losing its home to development and has been hunted to near extinction. The Florida Panther Net Website, maintained by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, is a good place to start to learn more about these cats. Hear audio files of their purring, hissing, and howling. Learn about their habitat in the Everglades. Read biologists' journals on panther activity. Get children's activities and lesson plans. Or, my favorite, see a short video clip of a panther "home movie." Then, support legislation and attitudes that help save panther habitat.
