One of the most highly regarded "Gurus" on the Web is Dr. Jakob Nielsen. Before starting on his own, he was a distinguished engineer at Sun. All the while, he has been helping webmasters perfect their alchemy. He publishes a bi-weekly column, called Alertbox. He has a complete archive of articles he has published since 1995. He has also published several books on User Interface design. His site goes to prove that it's really content that drives the Web, not graphics or bandwidth-hogging technology. I highly suggest visiting and absorbing all he has to say and then subscribing to his free e-mail newsletter.
