Meet the Vendee Globe Challenge

Site: http://www.vendeeglobe.com/home.asp?lang=us

The Vendee Globe Challenge is the brainchild of veteran ocean racer Phillipe Jeantot. The rules may be simple, but the race certainly isn't: Start out from Les Sables d'Olonne, France; then race 25,000 miles around the world alone, non-stop with no assistance. This will be the fourth Challenge since its inception in 1989, and by all accounts, it will be the most interesting. 24 skippers are slated for the start, previously scheduled for November 5 but postponed due to weather until November 9. One of the most watched racers will undoubtedly be 24-year-old Englishwoman Ellen MacArthur. This official website will keep you up to date on all of the race news, weather, competitor positions and even offers bulletin boards to communicate with other fans. Keep in mind that the race organizers are French, so some of phrasing on the site was obviously "translated" to English, but it's not too distracting. My only real complaint is that I wish there were a scroll bar instead of just an arrow--c'est la vie!
