Sailing Out to Belize's Barrier Reef and Atolls

Site: http://www.outsidemag.com/magazine/200011/200011dest1.html

In Outside magazine, Lee Carlson discusses his six-member group's 200-nautical mile sailing adventure from Ambergris Caye to the barrier reef--the largest in the Western Hemisphere--and out to Belize's atolls in a new 42-foot bareboat catamaran cruiser called Katmandu, which is built by the French company Fountaine Pajot. A former yacht captain, Carlson says the sailboat has been around for several years and is a sailing phenomenon: easy to handle, doesn't heel, skims through shallow water, and requires less expertise than for a monohull. Carlson recalls the group's diving experience off Belize's islets, talks a little about the country of Belize, describes the amazing sealife, and displays pictures from the trip. After the story, Carlson provides more detailed information for those interested in visiting this sailing paradise.
