The Blame Game

Site: http://www.spark-online.com/october99/media/television_j/sorense

Next time you encounter a problem, check the nearest mirror. You’re probably looking at both the cause and the solution. With those thoughts in mind, surf over to this article on spark-online.com for Jan Christian Sorenson’s commentary on the role television in our society. Sorenson’s well-taken point: media doesn’t create society--it is product of society. "Television acts as a barometer for our societal mores, trends and behaviour," he declares. "Those characters we watch are based on our actions; our attitudes. We need to shoulder our share of the blame for what’s happening on the homefront." Or, as Walt Kelly put it years ago, "we have met the enemy and he is us."
