Top » Environment, Nature & WildlifeAmerican Zoo and Aquarium AssociationSite: http://www.aza.orgDo you know what a Scimitar-Horned Oryx looks like? Do Spectacled Bears need to have their eyes checked? The answer to those and many other questions can be found at the AZA site. Founded in 1924, the AZA represents virtually every professionally-operated zoological park, aquarium, wildlife park, and oceanarium on the North American continent. Of particular interest to environmentalists are the outreach programs of AZA, covering areas such as the "National Alliance for Species Survival" and the "Borden Teacher Zone Endangered Species Curriculum." Repeated acts of violence and abuse of animals have tarnished the history of zoos. The AZA has worked hard to replace such ignorance with education on the conservation of the world's wildlife and their habitats, as well as by maintaining high standards for AZA accreditation.
