Top » ShoppingAmazon vs. AmazonSite: http://www.salonmagazine.com/tech/log/1999/10/28/amazon/index.htAmazon.com, arguably the most prominent e-commerce site on the Internet, has gotten embroiled in a legal jam that is anything but pretty. Katharine Mieszkowski's article for Salon.com tells the story of a little shop in Minneapolis called Amazon Bookstore that got fed up with dealing with customers who mistook it for the giant web retailer. Amazon Bookstore finally sued Amazon.com for trademark infringement. But surprisingly, Amazon.com has responded to the suit by adopting what appears to be a homophobic smear campaign against Amazon Bookstore, claiming that Amazon Bookstore's practice of "catering to the lesbian community" invalidates any question of trademark infringement.
