Unrest: a close look

Site: http://www.salon.com/ent/music/review/1999/11/01/unrest/index.ht

In his article for Salon.com, Joe Gross unpacks two recent rereleases by Unrest, the band that "anticipated '90s hipster fads way back ... in 1988." "From Kiss to Loungecore, Kenneth Anger to Blaxploitation," Unrest was a very different band about ten years ago, when its second and third albums ("Malcom X Park" and "Kustom Karnal Blackxploitation") came out. A far cry from the "lithe," "romantic" songs of the early '90s, Unrest's earlier songs contain strange, wonderful material that's strikingly prophetic of what would become fashionable just a short way down the road. An intelligent critique of a rare band.
