As a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists, where on the Web do I go to get the latest environmental news? I could subscribe to a wire service, or haunt CNN or the major network sites, but for the best in-depth reporting, I first turn to Discovery Online, and specifically to Earth Alert! If I need more background, I visit other sites that I will be reviewing in the future. No "one" site has it all, but Discovery Online leads the pack, being visually-pleasing and full of insight. Earth Alert uses easily identifiable symbols on a world map, such as birds, animals, fish, oil cans, a flame or volcano, to identify trouble spots where animals are threatened, major fires have broken out, or volcanos are erupting. Simply click on the symbol, and you will be taken to a late-breaking news story and, when available, a color photo of the event or discovery. The site is continually updated, as new info is added to current stories and old stories are discarded.
