Pets are not luggage, advocates say

Is the cargo hold of an airplane a safe place for your cat or dog? While the Air Transport Association says 99 percent of the 500,000 pets shipped by air annually come through just fine, the other 1 percent--or 5,000 animals--aren't so lucky. The U.S. Congress is working on legislation to improve pet safety on flights. The issues include rough handling, temperature extremes and oxygen depletion in the cargo areas. In reply, some in the airline industry say companies will simply stop shipping pets if tough guidelines are imposed. Here's the full story from CBS.
