North American Numbering Council

Site: http://www.fcc.gov/ccb/Nanc

In October 1995, the Federal Communications Commission established the North American Numbering Council (NANC) as a federal advisory committee. Current reports include "Telephone Number Reservations," with instructions to modify the industry's guideline language per its findings, and "Reporting of Reseller Utilization Data." The NANC's footprint has found its way to various commercial services, such as 900 and 500, where it effectively had the planned portability of both tabled. Anyone, whether industry vendor or end user, whose business relies on phone numbers, including toll free, should keep a close eye on the NANC's activities.
