Top » Books & LiteratureCalling All Toni Morrison FansSite: http://beloved.hampshire.edu./tm.shtmlFor Toni Morrison fans, this website is a must-stop-at-junction. As the first Black woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, not only has she opened doors for African American writers, she has introduced critical thought about Black culture through literature. For readers, she has opened windows in their minds through her six novels. Among other subdirectories, her site has links devoted to her biography, her books, and critical essays surrounding the controversy over Oprah Winfrey's movie, Beloved. You'll find links to other Toni Morrison sites. On this page, quoted from a 1987 interview, Toni Morrison stated, "There is so much to describe...for purpose of exorcism and purposes of rites, celebratory rites of passage, things must be..made some...fixing ceremony, some...memorial, something...some altar, some where these things can be released, thought and felt. But the consequences of slavery only artists can deal with. There are certain things that only artists can deal with and it is our job." Although some of the links are no longer active, this site will give you some insight into a modern-day literary giant. Tue, 16 Nov 1999 13:35:03 -0800
