Why Webvan may eventually sputter

This article, intentionally or unintentionally, enumerates all the reasons why NOT to jump at Webvan's IPO, which occurred November 5th. The online grocery business has certainly captured the imagination of e-commerce entrepreneurs, scholars and investors, in spite of impressive and continual losses reported by the big players. With a contract to build 26 distribution centers nationwide, Webvan is positioning itself to take the lead, at least on paper. By contrast, the large brick-and-mortar chains are very reluctant to do more than pay lip service to the concept. Good luck, investors! You'll need it.
