The Hottest & Coolest Products of '99

Every year, the Java Report contributors are asked to rank the hottest and coolest products in a number of categories. The categories this year are: Application Servers; Compilers & VMs; Database Middleware; Database Tools; GUI Components; IDEs; Servlet Tools, Components & Frameworks; Testing Tools; Third-Party Components; Utilities; and Web Authoring & Management Tools. I'd like to agree with the authors on many of the choices, but I place BEA's WebLogic application server and Symantec's IDEs in first in their respective categories. This is a useful list to start your own evaluation of Java products and tools before you begin that next big project!
