Vaudeville History

Site: http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/vshtml/vshome.html

Who ever thought that the Library of Congress would come up with such an interesting (and unusual) site? The main attraction is the selection of 146 theater playbills and programs which document the production of "traditional vaudeville shows; early musicals and burlesques; revues; specialized magic shows; and minstrel shows." Each playbilll is accompanied by bibliographic information. American Variety Stage also has special sections on Houdini, early motion pictures, English and Yiddish playscripts, and ten downloadable audio clips of typical sketches, songs, and monologs. Overall, this site is a treasure trove of information for anyone interested in Americana or the history of performing arts. Don't miss out. Christy Stabin
