ebay vs. auctionwatch

Once a cybertrading post, now an undoubtable cultural monolith, eBay is taking a stand against AuctionWatch.com. Until last week, the comparison site had succeeded in exploiting a chink in eBay's armor by "providing lists of eBay's auctions alongside those of its competitors"--but no more, as eBay changed the structure of its site on Thursday to prevent outside servers from extracting information about ongoing auctions. The conflict has been fulminating for some time: eBay's recent defensive was the result of several weeks of failed negotiations, and you can bet that AuctionWatch won't wait long to stage a counter-manoever.
