Top » Music: JazzWhat scale do I use over G7alt?Site: http://www.outsideshore.comAll improvisers at some stage ask this question, and now we have the Internet to find such answers. In fact, the Internet has an abundance of sites that provide a wealth of information about jazz--for the practitioner, student, and music lover. Mark Sabatella's "The Outside Shore" is one such site. There you will find an online version of "A Jazz Improvisation Primer," a fairly comprehensive document covering the history of jazz through to the topic "Applying Theory to Improvisation." The online book also covers chord/scale relationships, comping, bass lines, and other valuable and important material that jazz improvisers seek. Expect to find more at this site, including some great essays and Sabatella's music itself. Oh, BTW, use Ab melodic minor for the G7alt chord--you'll find the explanation at "The Outside Shore."
