Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence at Home!

If there was a Nobel Prize for innovative use of the web, this site deserves the award. SETI@home is an extraordinary concept. The idea was hatched at the Space Science Lab at the University of California at Berkeley. The approach involves harnessing the power of hundreds of thousands of Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). The pure genius in the approach involved the development of a data-analyzing screensaver that anyone can download. When the screensaver has finished analyzing a chunk of data, the results are automatically relayed back to SETI@home and new data sent back to you. If your machine is the first to detect a faint murmur of life in space, you will share the credit and immortality such a discovery will guarantee.
