Walking Life on the East River?

Site: http://www.salwen.com/mtnytour.html

What places come to mind when you think of Mark Twain? I'm willing to wager you didn't say New York City. But did you know the creator of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn spent more of his life near the Hudson River than the Mississippi? In fact, the oldest surviving scrap of writing from his hand is a letter home from Manhattan in which he confessed, "I have taken a liking to the abominable place." To celebrate Twain's 163rd birthday, New York writer and Twain expert Peter Salwen will lead a walking tour of Mark Twain landmarks in Soho and Greenwich Village on Saturday, November 20, 1999 (rain date: Sunday, November 21). This page offers backgound on Twain, information on the walking tour, and links to a half dozen or so Twain-related websites. You can use the e-mail form to get additional details or links to other Twain-related sites.
