a chaperone at the gynecologist

Site: http://my.webmd.com/content/article/1689.50001

A regular gynecological exam, although a medical must, can also be an uncomfortable, even embarassing, event. This article from WebMD tackles the issue of having a third-party observer, or "chaperone," in the room with you while you're on the table. The chaperone's main job is to offer support to the patient and to lessen the chances of any misunderstandings or "inapproporaite contact" between the examinee and her MD; despite their rarity, chaperones are recommended by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. If you'd like a chaperone at your next appointment, this article reminds you of your right to have one.
