Public Opinion in Support of Gambling

A new Gallup poll shows growing acceptance of gambling by Americans. Two-thirds of those polled said they approved of legal gambling, three-quarters approve of state lotteries, and 67% said that opening a casino improves a community’s economy. Most said they approved of gambling because they believe that people have a right to choose how to spend their money and enjoy their free time. Though the majority of those polled approved of gambling activities from bingo to horse racing, most did not approve of video poker machines at local establishments and sports betting.
