Top » Environment, Nature & WildlifeDog owners alerted on toxic shockSite: http://www.newss.ksu.edu/WEB/News/NewsReleases/listtoxicshock849Dog owners connected through e-mail discussion lists are again seeing alerts about the dog disease with the big name--and deadly outcomes. Offically known as streptococcal toxic shock syndrome, this canine form of toxic shock has typically shown up in dogs that have been exposed to large numbers of other dogs, including those participating in activities such dog shows and dog racing. The disease can go from the onset of symptoms to death in a matter of hours. Dr. Bruce Fenwick at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine is one of the nation's experts on the disease. In this helpful article, he outlines the symptoms and what owners must do to protect their dogs. Thu, 25 Nov 1999 17:57:46 -0800 Submitted by: Barbara Petura
