grafitti art revisited

Site: http://www.at149st.com/index.html

If you've been to New York City recently, you know that's it now a (practically) spotless, sanitized metropolis. But there was a time, not too many years ago, when Gotham's subways were prowled by people with names like the Fabulous 5ive and The Death Squad. Street gangs? No, grafitti artists. This site, @149 St., is devoted to this waning art form. Under Artists, you'll find hundreds of examples of the work of New York painters, along with biographical descriptions. Check out History for a good, general background to the subway art movement, and Links for more information on grafitti artists or genres. A powerful reminder that the most impassioned art could once be found, literally, underground.
