VULGAR CHEAP JAZZ?

Site: http://www.cwrl.utexas.edu/~nick/e309k/texts/faulkner/faulkner.h

Throughout the ages, past generations have thumbed their noses at the music of the ones to follow. Never was that more evident than in August of 1921. Anne Faulkner was the chair(person) of the General Federation Of Women's Clubs when she published her anti-jazz rhetoric in the popular Ladies' Home Journal. Referring to the music and its accompanying dance steps as outrageous, immoral, barbarian, half-crazed, and vile, she joined forces with those who would attempt to obliterate jazz from the American music scene. This four-page reprinted article is worthwhile reading for the student of music who wants to understand the influence of music styles on contemporary culture, as well as the current cultural climate's attempted repression of certain music styles. We would do well to learn from history...but will we ever? The Stall Guy
