Take the News Quiz

Site: http://www.slate.com/newsquiz/entries/99-12-01_57073.asp

I love it when online magazines like Slate take advantage of the capabilities of the Web instead of merely regurgitating print content in online form. The Microsoft-owned zine's daily News Quiz is one such feature. The premise is deliciously simple: editor Randy Cohen asks a question about a somewhat obscure event in the news. Readers then e-mail in their imaginative and often riotously funny answers. A question about why cheering demonstrators had gathered outside a Seattle McDonald's drew the one-word response "McLattes," for example. You must submit your answer by noon of the day the question appears, and the best replies are posted the next day, along with the correct answer to the question. It's a great way to get your brain going in the morning!
