Golf is the only competitive sport where the players are also the referees, making rulings and calling penalties on themselves and fellow competitors. Development of a deep understanding of the rules of golf enhances the game for all players. The United States Golf Association's rules discussion page helps golfers to understand the basic rules and the reasons for them. A serious quiz section tests your knowledge by randomly selecting questions from the USGA's "Decisions of Golf." Three levels of difficulty are provided, along with correct answers and explanations. Links to the USGA's home page and other offerings provide additional insight into the sport. Although knowledge of rules can sometimes generate a penalty stroke, it can also provide the smart player with relief.
