Top » Books & LiteratureVisual PoetrySite: http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~ndrose/visyeats.htmlNow THIS is the kind of thing the Web was made for. If you've ever read a poem by William Butler Yeats and marveled at the exquisite use of visual details, but lack the globetrotting experience to make precise points of reference, then this online guide to the "Visible Yeats" is just the thing for you. Lines from the Irish poet's works are juxtaposed with links that take you to a photo of the place or object being decsribed. Thus the link for "faces disfigured by their suffering" from "A Vision" takes you to an area of detail from Masaccio's "Expulsion from Paradise," the painting that inspired the passage. This site, while fascinating, is by no means exhaustive. One hopes that more Yeats images are added in the future, and that this idea will be expanded to include other poets as well. A multisensory delight! Fri, 10 Dec 1999 02:20:28 -0800
