Top » Music: MP3 & Digital Musicreintermedi-what?Site: http://www.wired.com/news/mp3/0,1285,32674,00.htmlYou heard me, I said "reintermediation"--a fancy-sounding word that means (in the MP3 context) more people getting in the way between the recording artists and the consumers, which is basically bad news for musicians who look to digital downloads as a way of making it big (or at least bigger). In this recent Wired article by John Gartner, Jeremy Silver from EMI records talks about where this whole MP3 thing is going, and speaks in support of the Secure Digital Music Initiative. Silver's perspective on technological security is refreshingly realistic, and the course he charts for EMI's future is interesting as well--particularly the bit about how digital distribution will drive up the price of music.
