It's a bit humbling to review the website of a national and world treasure. Perhaps the best strategy is to bookmark the Smithsonian Institution's home page and return often. How do you capture the essence of a sixteen-museum complex, a National Zoo, and a collection of 268 million objects and artifacts? The website of this global jewel attempts to describe its vast holdings in a single "Highlights" document, which is probably the best place to start. More exciting for people who may never actually be able to visit the Smithsonian are plans to digitize this enormous collection. That of course will take years, but it is an exciting long-range project. The Smithsonian is a breathtaking resource. Come back again and again and learn to love it!
